I was reading the last chapter of Revelation today and thinking about starting with Genesis chapter one tomorrow. One of the critical questions asked about the Creation story is "if God did not create the sun moon and stars until day four, where did the light come from on days one, two and three?" Interesting question because on day one:
Genesis 1:3-5 (NKJV)
Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.
So on day one we have a normal day with a dark period and a period of light. From all indications, this appears to be a normal 24 hour day. Yet we know that the earth's axial rotation is what defines our 24 hour day with the light coming from a single source, the sun. So what is the source of light on day's one, two and three if the sun is not created yet?
Now to what I read today in Revelation:
Revelation 22:5 (NKJV)
There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
If God can be the permanent source of light in Heaven, then it certainly is reasonable for Him to be the source of light on the first three days. Jesus said: "I am the light of the world." We always think about this claim in a figurative sense in which we equate light with truth and knowledge. But now we see that it is also literally true!
